Calling (Demo Version); A song calling the spirit of the land to stand up and be heard and seen.

This song is written by Fred and sung in the Butchulla language. It’s one of two songs that is used to call and send to sleep the spirit of the Butchulla people of the land known as K’Gari - meaning “Paradise”, the largest sand island in the world also known as “Fraser Island”.

The Butchulla language is one of more than 250 Indigenous Australian language groups. As a language it is officially extinct, in other words it is now in a state of revitalisation and no longer the first language spoken by Butchulla people. It is very rare to hear Butchulla songs in Australia let alone performed live or recorded. The Butchulla people consider their language to be “sleeping”, and this recording is part of its awakening.
